Hi, I'm Kimberly!

I’m a person-centered Licensed Professional Counselor with over seven years of experience working with adolescents in therapy and over ten years working with adolescents and young adults in education. My expertise is in school-based advocacy, handling really hard stuff with humor and placing an emphasis on how inherently brilliant of a person you are. My counseling philosophy centers you as the expert on your own life and a deep belief in your ability to feel what you need to feel to make the choices that are best for you, whether that’s talking, crying and laughing for a full session or processing through art, writing or mindfulness. If having space with me seems helpful, I’m going to trust your timing and terms for working through everything from relationships, school struggles, or how our brains work to intense life stuff like grief, trauma or body/food struggles.

After completing my bachelor’s degree in psychology at UT Rio Grande Valley, I earned my master’s degree in professional counseling at Texas State University. Before counseling, I was a 5th grade reading teacher, college mentor and afterschool arts program specialist. Having built a career working with mental health in schools, I specialize in pulling interventions from multiple theoretical frameworks including DBT, narrative, strengths-based and person-centered to create a responsive, warm and genuine therapeutic experience for diverse, trauma-informed needs.

I hope to get to know each other more soon if that seems helpful for you, but in the meantime here’s a sneak preview about me. I'm originally from South Texas and grew up thirty minutes from Mexico and the beach. I feel most like myself hosting game nights with cousins or talking with friends in a pool or over dinner. I’m obsessed with Grey’s Anatomy and documentaries with an amazing edit and soundtrack. Some of my miscellaneous faves include going to the movies, designing everything, holidays and sunset walks with my pup, Emma.

If you want to learn more about working together, I would love to talk more with you in a free consult!
