Parent coaching and consultation in gender and sexuality is intended to empower parents to better support the LGBTQIA+ young people in their lives. This service is different from therapy in that it focuses on a specific struggle or set of questions that a parent brings, and leans on education and resource-sharing.
Some reasons a parent might seek consultation:
Your child has come out in some way and you are struggling to wrap your head around terminology, implications, or new worries this brings up in you.
Your child is trans, non-binary, or gender non-conforming, interested in medical interventions, and you want some support in learning about the process and accessing resources.
You are committed to sex positive parenting, but struggling with how to play that out in practice.
a coaching session lasts 50 minutes and parents will come away with:
A new way of understanding the problem they are coping with
Answers to specific questions around terminology, identity, and other new concepts
Support in adapting to the language their child might need (name, pronouns, etc)
